Terms of Use & Copyright
© 2026 The Line. All rights reserved.
The short version
Play the game as much as you like, keep your score, and share it anywhere. Please don’t copy the questions, lift Lionel or his commentary, or reuse any part of the site commercially without asking first.
Who we are
The Line is an independent daily word game at theline.games. By playing the game you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.
Copyright and ownership
Everything original on this site is owned by The Line and protected by copyright in the United Kingdom, the United States and other countries. That includes:
- the daily questions, answer cards, explanations and bonus-round text;
- Lionel — his appearance, artwork and commentary — together with the other drawings, icons and hand-lettered graphics;
- the site design, code and the way the pages are put together; and
- the name “The Line” as used for this game, along with its logo and get-up.
What you can do
- Play every day, for free, for your own enjoyment, and invite others to play.
- Share your own score, streak or result card using the share buttons or your own words and screenshots.
- Quote a short line from the game when reviewing or talking about it, with credit and a link back to theline.games.
What you can’t do
- Copy, republish or translate the questions or explanations, in whole or in part, including in another quiz, newsletter, app or social account.
- Scrape or collect the puzzle archive with a script, or use the questions to train or supply another service, without a written agreement.
- Use Lionel, the artwork, the logo or the name “The Line” in your own product, branding or advertising, or in a way that suggests we endorse you.
- Sell access to the game, mirror it, or run an automated player that answers on your behalf at scale.
- Remove or change the copyright notice, this page, or any other notice on the site.
If you’d like to use the questions or artwork beyond the permissions above — for a classroom, a publication, a partnership or an archive feed — please ask us first and we’ll be glad to talk.
Third-party names and characters
Some puzzles mention films, games, musicians, brands or characters. Those names and images belong to their own owners, who are not affiliated with The Line and do not endorse it. They appear purely to identify the subject of a question.
Ads, links and your data
The site shows advertising and links to third-party pages. We’re not responsible for what those parties do with you once you’ve clicked. How we handle your information is explained in our privacy policy.
No guarantees
The game is provided as it is. Scores, streaks and leaderboards can occasionally go wrong, and the site may be unavailable at times. We do our best to keep it running, but we can’t promise it always will.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the game changes. The latest version will always be available at this page, and continued use of the game means you accept it.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute about them is dealt with by the courts there.

For permissions, corrections or anything else about these terms, please contact us through the suggest-a-line form on the home page.
